VR 53 arrives at museum

After a long wait of seven years, on 22 April 2015 Victorian Railways ‘luxury’ tram No 53 finally arrived at Hawthorn Depot for display in the Melbourne Tram Museum. This tram was loaned to our museum by the Australian Railway Historical Society in 2008, but has been in store at Preston Workshops since then.

This historically important tram is one of the few remaining relics of the two tram routes run by the Victorian Railways in the south-eastern bayside suburbs of Melbourne between 1906 and 1959.
